Periodically, we feature one of our outstanding providers. Today we feature Michelle Kessler, our physician’s assistant, because she has just returned from vacation (photo taken in Cozumel, Mexico!), and her radiance reminds us of some of the unknown but fascinating details of her life leading up to her joining our practice. These details are a delightful reminder to us all (including Michelle’s Roxboro, NC following!) of why we are so lucky to have Michelle as part of our core team! As you may have read in her bio, Michelle has been with us since 2005.
Here is a great story about Michelle when she was barely a decade old in Upstate New York. If our past activities and interests determine our present character, then you may conclude after reading this story that Michelle is touched by an angel when it comes to caring for others: “When I was 11 one of our neighbors had a baby that was born in the 24th week, weighing 1 lb. and 7 oz. She survived; she is 20-something today. When the baby got home, her family didn’t have a lot of money, and I was kind of mature and offered to help out whenever possible. I quickly learned how to suction her, and her parents trusted me enough that they could go out for dinner and have a break without the constant worry about their child. I could watch her and they could feel comfortable.”
When Michelle was 11, 12, 13 and 14 years old, she was doing extraordinary things that are unusual for kids that age. She has always liked being able to take care of patients and people. A the time, she didn’t know if that included pediatrics or neonatology, but she did know that she wanted a career that would allow her to empower women. We are so happy to have her as part of our team!
