MonaLisa Touch® Vaginal Rejuvenation

Laser procedure designed to treat vaginal atrophy and symptoms like vaginal dryness, itching and burning that are caused by hormonal changes.

As women age, hormonal changes—especially during perimenopause and menopause—can lead to uncomfortable vaginal symptoms such as dryness, irritation, and pain during intimacy. MonaLisa Touch is a gentle, non-surgical CO2 laser treatment designed to restore vaginal health by stimulating natural collagen production and improving tissue function. This quick, in-office procedure helps many women regain confidence, comfort, and quality of life without the need for hormones or downtime.

Am I a suitable candidate for MonaLisa Touch™?

If you are a woman with vaginal atrophy or laxity caused by hormonal changes, and are experiencing symptoms like vaginal dryness, itching or pain, especially during intercourse, the MonaLisa Touch can help. The MonaLisa Touch procedure is minimally invasive and can greatly enhance your quality of life and sexual wellbeing without dangerous side effects.

Is anesthesia required?

No, the procedure does not usually require anesthetic. However, if a patient prefers, an anesthetic cream can be applied prior to treatment to help reduce discomfort.

What is the recovery like?

Since laser vaginal revitalization is minimally invasive, patients can return home to recover following the procedure. Patients should refrain from sexual activity for two or three days following treatment, but can otherwise resume their normal routines. Your doctor will give you specific recommendations to ensure a speedy recovery.

How does the MonaLisa Touch™ treatment work?

The MonaLisa Touch treatment is performed using a special CO2 fractional laser, specifically designed for this type of application. The procedure is carried out in a medical practice and usually does not require anesthesia. The laser application itself lasts less than five minutes! Typically, three treatments are needed over the course of 12 weeks to deliver the best results.

Are there any risks?

Every procedure carries some minimal risks. However, MonaLisa Touch is a minimally invasive procedure performed under the supervision of a medical professional.

What type of results can I expect?

Most patients report a reduction in symptoms such as dryness, burning, itching and pain during intercourse, which substantially improves their quality of life. Though three sessions are recommended, patients will start to notice results after the first treatment.

MonaLisa Touch vs. Morpheus8V: Which Treatment is Right for You?

  • Both MonaLisa Touch and Morpheus8V are advanced, non-surgical treatments designed to improve vaginal health, but they use different technologies:

    • MonaLisa Touch: A fractional CO₂ laser that gently stimulates collagen production in the vaginal tissues, improving dryness, elasticity, and overall function. It is ideal for women experiencing vaginal atrophy, discomfort during intimacy, or mild urinary symptoms.

    • Morpheus8V: A radiofrequency microneedling treatment that delivers controlled heat deep into the vaginal and vulvar tissues to promote collagen and elastin production. It not only improves hydration and tightness but also helps with external tissue laxity and mixed urinary incontinence (meaning related to either stress urinary incontinence or urge incontinence.)

  • The best treatment depends on your specific concerns and goals:

    • If you primarily experience mild vaginal dryness, irritation, or painful intercourse → MonaLisa Touch may be a good option if symptoms are mild.

    • If you want both internal and external tissue tightening and improved tone → Morpheus8V might be the better choice.

    • If you have mild urinary incontinence (leakage when sneezing, coughing, or exercising) → Morpheus8V may provide additional benefits.

    • If you're looking for a non-hormonal solution for menopausal vaginal changes → Both treatments are excellent options.

    • More Severe Vaginal Laxity or External Tissue Concerns → Morpheus8V penetrates deeper into both the internal and external tissues, making it a better option for women experiencing significant laxity, loss of elasticity, or changes in the appearance of the vulvar area.

    • More Advanced Urinary Incontinence → While MonaLisa Touch can help with mild urinary symptoms, Morpheus8V’s combination of microneedling and radiofrequency provides a stronger tissue-tightening effect, making it a better choice for those with more noticeable leakage issues.

  • Morpheus8V is considered more invasive than MonaLisa Touch because it combines radiofrequency energy with microneedling, penetrating deeper into the vaginal and vulvar tissues. This allows for more significant collagen remodeling, tissue tightening, and symptom relief, making it ideal for women with more intense vaginal laxity, dryness, or urinary incontinence.

MonaLisa Touch, by contrast, is a gentler laser treatment that primarily targets the surface layers of tissue. It’s a great option for women with mild to moderate vaginal atrophy who want a quick, comfortable treatment with no downtime.

  • Since Morpheus8V penetrates deeper, pain management is available to ensure comfort. Patients receive a topical numbing cream before treatment, and in some cases, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) may be used. While some mild discomfort may occur, most patients find it very manageable.

MonaLisa Touch is generally well tolerated with minimal discomfort, similar to a mild warming sensation. No anesthesia is required, and the procedure is quick.

    • MonaLisa Touch: Little to no downtime. Patients may experience mild redness or sensitivity for a few days, but normal activities can be resumed immediately. Avoid intercourse for 2-3 days to allow healing.

    • Morpheus8V: Slightly longer recovery due to deeper tissue penetration. Patients may experience swelling, sensitivity, and light spotting for a few days. It’s typically recommended to avoid intercourse, tampons, or vigorous exercise for about a week to allow full healing.

Both treatments offer long-lasting benefits, and your provider will recommend the best option based on your symptoms and goals.
