Neurotoxins

Facial neurotoxins, often referred to as neuromodulators, are a popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. These neurotoxins work by temporarily blocking nerve signals to the muscles, resulting in a smoother and more youthful appearance. At DWC Medical Wellness and Aesthetics Drs. Schreiber and Desai as well as our PA Michele Kessler are currently booking neurotoxin visits.

How They Work

Facial neurotoxins, such as Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®, contain botulinum toxin type A, a purified protein that when injected into specific facial muscles will temporarily relax the muscles, preventing them from contracting and causing wrinkles to form.

Common Treatment Areas

Facial neurotoxins are commonly used to address wrinkles and lines in various areas of the face, including:

Forehead Lines: Horizontal lines that form across the forehead due to repetitive muscle movements.

Glabellar Lines (Frown Lines): Vertical lines that appear between the eyebrows, often referred to as "11 lines" or "frown lines."

Crow's Feet: Fine lines that radiate from the corners of the eyes, typically caused by smiling or squinting.

Bunny Lines: Horizontal wrinkles that develop on the bridge of the nose when smiling or scrunching the nose.

Smoker's Lines: Vertical lines that form around the lips, commonly associated with smoking or pursing the lips.

Lips: Neurotoxins can be used to perform a “lip flip”. By injecting around the upper lip, you can provide a subtle enhancement of the shape and appearance of the upper lip, making it look slightly fuller and more pronounced. A lip flip is ideal for clients who want a slight enhancement rather than significant volume.

Treatment Process

Facial neurotoxin injections are performed in the comfort of our clinic by either our PA, Michele Kessler, or one of our physicians, Dr. Schreiber or Dr. Desai. The procedure is quick, typically lasting only a few minutes, and involves the following steps:

Consultation: During an initial cconsultation, the provider will assess your facial anatomy, discuss your aesthetic goals, and develop a customized treatment plan tailored to your needs. If you decide to proceed, we will complete the injections the same day.

Injection: Using a fine needle, the neurotoxin solution is injected directly into the targeted muscles.

Recovery: There is minimal downtime associated with facial neurotoxin treatments, and most patients can resume their normal activities immediately afterward. Some temporary redness, mild swelling, or bruising at the injection sites may occur but typically resolves within a few days.

Results: Results from facial neurotoxin treatments typically become noticeable within a few days to a week after the procedure and can last for three to six months. To maintain the effects, follow-up treatments are recommended as needed.

Overall, neurotoxins offer a safe and effective way to achieve a smoother, more youthful-looking complexion without the need for surgery or extensive downtime.
